OUR FOUNDERS

Pastors Greg & Gretchen DeVries

Having founded J38 eighteen years ago, in 2008, with just one student, Pastors Greg and Gretchen have faithfully poured their lives into seeing countless young adults encounter the Lord, walk in the Spirit, and step into both full-time church and marketplace ministry. What began as a small step of obedience has grown into a lasting legacy of discipleship, spiritual formation, and Kingdom impact. Their lives are a powerful example of wholehearted surrender to Christ, and their passion for young adults and discipleship continues to burn strong.

As the Lead Pastors of The Well Scottsboro, Greg and Gretchen provide spiritual leadership and pastoral oversight for both the church and J38. Their commitment to the presence of God, biblical discipleship, and raising up the next generation shapes the culture and direction of the school. They remain actively involved in the lives of students, teaching on a weekly basis and providing wisdom, encouragement, and spiritual guidance throughout the year.

Their investment in students extends far beyond the classroom. Through weekly services, ministry trips, shared meals, and gatherings in their home, Greg and Gretchen create meaningful opportunities to build relationships, speak into students’ lives, and model what it looks like to faithfully follow Christ. These personal moments of connection and discipleship have become an integral part of the J38 experience, allowing students to learn not only from their teaching, but also from the example of their lives.

We deeply honor Greg and Gretchen for their faithfulness, their legacy, and the countless lives they have impacted through the years. Their continued willingness to serve, disciple, and invest in the next generation is a gift to the church and to J38. We are grateful for the foundation they have laid and for the generations of young people they continue to raise up to know Christ, walk in His Spirit, and fulfill His purpose for their lives.

OUR VISION

LEARN TO HEAR GOD’S VOICE, BE WILLING TO FORSAKE ANYTHING, YEA EVERYTHING, TO FOLLOW IT.

OUR PASTORS

Pastors Austin & Hannah Foote

Providing daily leadership, oversight, and support for the school are Pastors Austin and Hannah Foote. Both serve on staff at The Well Scottsboro in additional areas of ministry and are committed to faithfully serving the local church and advancing the purpose of the Lord’s house.

As graduates of the school themselves, Austin and Hannah have a unique passion for investing in the next generation. Their personal experience as students, combined with their commitment to discipleship, gives them a genuine desire to see young people grow in their faith, develop a strong foundation in Christ, and be equipped to fulfill God’s purpose for their lives.

Through consistent mentorship, discipleship, and spiritual leadership, they are dedicated to helping cultivate an environment where students can grow, serve, and be prepared to make a lasting impact for the Kingdom of God.

We Envision

A place where young people encounter Jesus, grow deep in His Word, and discover the purpose He has placed on their lives.

A community‍ where faith is strengthened, lives are transformed, and students learn what it means to fully surrender to Jesus and walk boldly in obedience.

A family where lifelong friendships are built, faith is shared, and students grow together as brothers and sisters in Christ.

A generation discovering their God-given gifts, passions, and purpose and learning to steward them for His Kingdom wherever He calls them.

We Believe

We believe today’s young people are tomorrow’s soul winners, world changers, and carriers of the Gospel.

We believe every student is called to know Jesus deeply, serve others faithfully, make disciples, lead courageously, and carry His presence wherever they go.

We believe every life has purpose—and that when young people encounter Jesus, discover who He created them to be, and surrender fully to Him, they can make an eternal impact.
